Chicago, 1983. Race. Politics. Fear… And the election that changed everything. Busted City is the story of a city standing on the brink of a major historical moment: the election of Harold Washington, Chicago's first African-American mayor. It is an examination of Chicago politics and prejudice, of race, of who gets a piece of the pie and how it got that way.
Election Day is drawing close, and tensions are running high in a non-descript Chicago bar. The bar is home to a bookie, Theo (Guy DiBenedetto), taking bets on the blood sport of Chicago politics. He is aided by his mentor, Jimbo (Michael Byrne), a retired South Side Irish cop, and their bagman, Al (Tony Pulgine), a South Side Italian cop just a few years from retirement. The restaurant next door is run by Theo's gay brother, Johnny Jr (Nick Leininger). They are joined by Ace (Arch Harmon), a black mail carrier and long-time bettor at the bar, who sees in the election the promise of a triumph long overdue. Written by Chicago native Paul Carr, and staged in a real Chicago pub, Busted City is a dynamic look at the lives of ordinary citizens on the eve of the most dynamic shift of power the city has ever seen. Tickets available through Brown Paper Tickets. September 21 - December 16 Friday, Saturday, and Sunday @ 7pm $15 or pay-what-you-can.
